SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Ouster, a leading manufacturer of high-resolution lidar sensors, announced today that its newest multi-beam flash lidar sensor, the OS-1-128, has been awarded the CES Innovation Award in the Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technology category. Ouster will exhibit the OS-1-128 as well as the rest of their award-winning product portfolio and automotive integrations at CES this week at Booth #1818 in Westgate, Tech East.
The OS-1-128 launched last week, and is the highest resolution lidar on the market with 128 individual laser beams. It comes with no change in size, mass, power consumption, or ruggedness compared to Ouster's current OS-1-64 lidar, and is built with Ouster's patented Multi-Beam Flash Lidar architecture.
The OS-1-128 has a 45° vertical field of view, the widest available of any commercially sold high-performance lidar sensor. It produces 2.62 million points per second to form the dense point clouds necessary for object detection and machine learning in autonomous driving.
In 2018, Ouster announced its unique ability to achieve perfectly correlated 3D and 2D range, intensity, and ambient camera-like images with their OS-1-64. The OS-1-128 takes that imagery to the next level with double the vertical resolution, further accelerating applications of 2D deep learning algorithms on 3D point cloud data.
Ouster's current high resolution OS-1-64 lidar is sold into a variety of markets including autonomous vehicles, robotics, drones, mapping, smart cities, building security, and industrials.
Partnerships with automotive manufacturers have resulted in seamless integrations within vehicle bumpers and behind windshields. Ouster will announce and showcase these automotive integrations, and run a live multi-sensor lidar demonstration at their CES booth this week.
"We're proud to be recognized for our innovation by the Consumer Technology Association. CES has evolved into a premier autonomous and robotics technology showcase with thousands of exhibitors showcasing their developments, we're honored to be chosen for this award," said Angus Pacala, CEO and Co-founder of Ouster. "It's further validation for us that our unique multi-beam flash lidar approach and commitment to performance and transparency are changing benchmarks in the lidar market."
Ouster expects the OS-1-128 to be available for volume purchases in the summer of 2019. Customers can reach out to request to purchase initial units and inquire about volume pricing.
