(Taiwan GTSM: 5351) and Analogix Semiconductor, Inc. have today announced development plans to integrate Etron's innovative RPC DRAM™ for a low-cost Panel Self Refresh (PSR) timing controller (TCON) multi-chip form-factor package for tablet and notebook PC applications.

Etron's 256 Mbit RPC DRAM architecture is optimized for stairstep die stacking configuration using the DRAM as the lower die which decouples the TCON die size from the DRAM's, avoiding a traditional limitation of the process node scaling and creating new options for cost and performance optimization. 

"The RPC DRAM plays an important role in the Analogix timing controller roadmap by allowing a path for TCON die shrinks via technology node scaling," said Ning Zhu, CTO of Analogix Semiconductor. "Not only is cost reduced by shrinking the TCON die, power is scaled as well, compounding the power saving benefits of the PSR architecture. The RPC™ enables a better performing TCON system at a lower cost vs standard DRAM."
