PLEASANTON, Calif., Jan. 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Ettifos announces that it will release its first smart device operated V2X solution, ETF-VRU01, at CES2019.
ETF-VRU01 is the world's first mobile application-based V2X solution and operates most V2X communication functions using a smart device, such as smartphones or tablets. It can be implemented in the application with a compact DSRC modem module.
ETF-VRU01 is the first application of Ettifos' wide-ranging technology, focusing on vulnerable roadside user (VRU) applications. Because it is based on application software that runs on the smartphone, it is a flexibly programmable platform that can implement a variety of service scenarios such as V2V, V2I, I2V, V2P, and I2P. Ettifos is in the process of patenting services related to the above key ideas.
The ETF-VRU01 is a solution based on DSRC technology, and supports US and EU protocol stacks and conforms to SAE J2735 and J2945 standards. Ettifos also plans to introduce a version based on C-V2X (based on LTE PC5 or sidelink) technology by mid-2019.
Past attempts by developers to proceed with V2X-related experiments necessitated a testing environment comprised of complex and expensive equipment such as notebooks, large-capacity power suppliers, external composite antennas, and an external test unit, usually an On Board Unit. In comparison, Ettifos' ETF-VRU01 is run through portable 5V batteries or small bus-powered modules (30mm x 50mm x 5mm) with film-type antennas, and SDK (software development kit). Through communication protocols in the form of mobile application-based software and the provision of miniature models, ETF-VRU01 will offer the implementation of a wide array of V2X services at a rational cost for V2X system developers, V2X device manufacturing companies, and shared-service providers.
