AASA Joins Industry Leaders and Becomes a Member of the Industrial Internet Consortium

RESTON, Va., Sept. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- AASA, a U.S. based innovative IT, engineering and R&D solutions provider, leading through its 01LightCom subsidiary, has recently joined the Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC™), the world's leading organization transforming business and society by accelerating the adoption of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). AASA will be the first IIC member to introduce the revolutionary Visible Light Communication (VLC) technology and LiFi, which will help the consortium and its members integrate new technologies that enable the IIoT.

AASA has already worked with other IIC members to create a framework for a Functional Safety and Cybersecurity Validation Platform that included a LiFi-based V2X wireless communication system transmitting real-time brake, steering, Functional Safety and Cyber Security data, and was demonstrated at the NI Week in Austin, TX in May of 2018. Similar demonstrations are planned at future IIC meetings as well as at IoT Solutions World Congress in Barcelona in October, 2018.

"We're delighted to have AASA as a member of the IIC to share its innovative LiFI wireless technology with IIC other members," said Dr. Richard Soley, Executive Director, IIC. "We're particularly pleased that AASA has already participated in our Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) initiative, in which IIC members are working on best practices and technologies to help guide the transportation industry."

AASA has demonstrated its ready to market VLC-based indoor positioning and VR/AR systems at the CES 2018 in Las Vegas. AASA is currently customizing various solutions based on existing VLC products to clients around the Globe.

What is VLC
Visible Light Communication (VLC), is an innovative wireless communication technology offering high bandwidth, immunity to interference from electromagnetic sources, and high levels of communication security. In addition, the latest advances in the field of solid state lighting, and the inevitable replacement of florescent lighting by Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), will facilitate the deployment of VLC technology. The use of bidirectional VLC through LEDs is referred to as Li-Fi. VLC addresses the shortcomings of current localized wireless communications. Radio Frequency (RF) communication suffers from interference, limited bandwidth, and security issues. In addition, RF communication requires a separate setup for transmission and reception of RF waves, at the cost of higher energy consumption. Finally, the limited RF spectrum is unable to meet the demand for ubiquitous low energy and high capacity connectivity, which is necessary for an efficient implementation of IoT and IIoT.
