Introducing AccuWeather Go on Garmin Automotive Platform
AccuWeather Offers Sneak Peak of AccuWeather Go at CES 2018 on Garmin's In-Car Interface.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Jan. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- AccuWeather Global Weather Center – AccuWeather, the world's largest and fastest-growing source of weather forecasts and warnings and a global leader in digital media and weather-related big data, today announced AccuWeather Go™ will be demonstrated by Garmin in its new scalable infotainment platform for Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. This joint effort is the first public demonstration of the revolutionary AccuWeather Go, with patented MinuteCast®, and Garmin routing algorithms to deliver minute-by-minute weather conditions for any road trip.

AccuWeather Go™ provides the next level of personalized weather innovation for travelers to keep them informed and safe on the road. AccuWeather's multi-point API seamlessly integrates patented AccuWeather MinuteCast® minute-by-minute, hyper-local forecast data with navigation services based on a user's specific route, at every point and time along the way. It gives users increased situational awareness when a weather event -- and the severity and duration of that weather event -- will impact their journey, down to the minute and exact GPS location.

"This is the first time navigation and weather information have been integrated and automated in a way that is truly useful to the driver," says Kip Dondlinger, Garmin Automotive OEM Manager of Product and User Experience. "Both in your daily commute and longer road trips, knowing what to expect on your specific route is something all drivers can appreciate. And with multiple route options presented, it can help you avoid the worst weather conditions."

AccuWeather and Garmin have worked together for several years to provide weather forecasts and warnings with Superior Accuracy™ on Garmin wearables and fitness devices, such as the Garmin Vivoactive 3.

"We are glad to have the opportunity to collaborate with Garmin through a number of IoT implementations and innovative applications, and CES provides us with a great opportunity to showcase a practical demonstration of AccuWeather Go for drivers," said Steve Smith, President of Digital Media for AccuWeather. "Clearly, hazardous weather is a top concern for all travelers. AccuWeather Go is the next evolutionary step in personalized weather and lets users arrive at their destinations safely."

Each year, unfavorable weather conditions are directly responsible for more than 6,000 traffic fatalities in the United States and 1.25 million globally. Inclement weather events are the cause of more than 1 million automobile accidents in the United States annually.

To stay ahead of adverse weather conditions and enjoy a safer and more efficient driving experience, users will be able to rely on AccuWeather Go for the most accurate local weather information and real-time updates customized to their route, exclusively from AccuWeather.  AccuWeather Go was also designed for those traveling by foot, motorcycle, bicycle, or any type of vehicle.

During CES, the Garmin auto infotainment platform, featuring AccuWeather Go, will be shown in a new demonstration vehicle with an all-digital Garmin instrument cluster including full-screen moving maps.
