Governments and Businesses Must Leverage Advancing Technologies for a Safer and More Secure Internet, Unisys Chairman and CEO Peter Altabef to Tell Attendees at CES Government Conference

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Governments and businesses – along with academia and private citizens – must all act to ensure that technological advances are deployed in ways that promote internet safety and security, Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) Chairman and CEO Peter Altabef will tell attendees of the CES Government conference on January 12 in Las Vegas.

In a presentation entitled "The Cyber Moonshot Imperative," based on his work co-chairing the White House Cyber Moonshot working group for the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC), Altabef will speak to the goal of a safer and more secure internet and the fundamental changes required. These changes are needed at all levels of society, from education and policy to privacy and technology.

"To enact the necessary changes, governments and companies will need to actively leverage new technologies, including 5G communications, artificial intelligence and biometrics, to make us safer – not just better connected," Altabef said. "Our NSTAC report envisions a way forward to better securing the internet while also respecting privacy."

Founded in 1982 by President Reagan and an act of Congress, NSTAC is chartered to provide information and advice to the President with respect to national security. The Cybersecurity Moonshot report includes a set of recommendations for a "whole of nation approach" regarding the internet – similar in spirit to the one once announced by President Kennedy for "landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth" by the end of the 1960s.
