Brilliant Named As CES 2018 Innovation Awards Honoree

NEW YORK, Nov. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Brilliant today announced that it has been named a CES 2018 Innovation Awards Honoree for the Brilliant Control, a new smart home product that replaces an existing light switch to give consumers voice and touch control over lighting, music, climate, and other smart home devices. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge consumer electronics products across 28 product categories. This is the second honor awarded for the Brilliant Control this month, having recently been named the Best IoT Hardware product in the IoT Innovator Awards.

The Brilliant Control is the first product to combine all interaction methods of ambient computing -voice, touch, motion/presence - into one seamless package. It was designed to solve a growing problem with smart home technology: the more smart home products you have, the harder it is to use your house. Each smart lock, thermostat, light, or sound system requires a different mobile app, and they rarely work together. If you are a guest in the house, or a child without a mobile phone, you can't control them at all.

Brilliant's elegant solution turns every room into an ambient computing environment, and can be installed in minutes just by replacing an existing light switch. Now you can set your Sonos to your favorite Spotify channel, adjust the temperature with your Nest, answer your Ring doorbell, and create custom lighting scenes with ease. No more digging for your mobile phone to find the right app -- now family, friends, and guests can easily interact directly with all the capabilities of your home using its iPhone-sized digital touchscreen, built in Amazon Alexa voice services, or trigger custom scenes and settings when you enter a room.  Similar capabilities are offered by custom home automation vendors for $20,000 or more and require weeks of installation and configuration - the Brilliant Control can be installed in minutes for $199.

"In the last year, the smart home industry has evolved from mobile app controlled devices to voice based appliances that plug into the wall like Amazon Echo or Google Home. As this market rapidly matures, these capabilities will be built directly into the walls of your home - true ambient computing that anyone in the home can easily access," said Aaron Emigh, Chief Executive Officer and Cofounder of Brilliant. "We are honored to receive this award and are elated to know that the consumer technology experts at CES Innovation Awards and the Consumer Technology Association recognize our vision to bring simplicity and delight to the smart home."

The prestigious CES Innovation Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™, the owner and producer of CES 2018, the global gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies, and have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976.

The Brilliant Control will be displayed at CES 2018, which runs January 9-12, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada. A selection of Honorees will also be displayed at CES Unveiled New York, which features dozens of exhibitors and networking opportunities and runs 3:00-7:30 PM November 9 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York.

Entries are evaluated on their engineering, aesthetic and design qualities, intended use/function and user value, unique/novel features present and how the design and innovation of the product directly compares to other products in the marketplace.

Products chosen as CES Innovation Honorees reflect innovative design and engineering in some of the most cutting edge tech products and services coming to market.

CES 2018 Innovation Honoree products are featured on CES.tech/Innovation, which lists product categories, as well as each product name, manufacturer information, description, photo and URL.
